2001 EX Wall of Fame

Ken Griffey Jr. #KG

Well I just did a huge G/U trade. 16 Barry Larkin, Adam Dunn, and Austin Kearns game used cards for 9 Ken Griffey Jr. game used cards. They book value to the same amount but obviously I had a hard time getting rid of so many of my favorite Reds g/u for them. But, to me, still well worth it! This one inparticular is a sweet rubber textured piece of wall. Just Awesome! And Die-Cut to boot! I love them die-cuts!

Here's a dual game/used I'm not all that fond of. Really don't like that scrub cluttering the card with my boy Griff! Enjoy, I guess.

2008 Upper Deck Spectrum

Ken Griffey Jr. #24

Well I stopped at Wal-Mart today and noticed a new type of box located in the card section. Amazed to see blaster boxes of 2008 UD Spectrum I bought one. Not noticing on it that they are keeping up with there 1 G/U per box like last years Artifacts that I bought. 7 Packs at 4 Cards a Pack. Yup $20 for only 28 cards. Looks like I got extra lucky. Hit my Griffey base (shown above) and also the Adam Dunn base card and the 1 G/U hit of the box turns out to be Austin Kearns. Upperdeck.com's website shows the #AK1 and AK2 as Kearns on the Nationals. However I have card #AK2 and he's pictured in a Reds Uni and the card shows the Reds team logo and its a Reds Jersey (White w/ Red Stripe). Too Cool!

A Full Reds Team Set of

The Hockey Stick Set
1982 Topps

This was the second year of collecting for me. My vaunted Reds. Soon to be crushed by Chamblis, Murph and Hrabosky the Mad. But it was early and I was diging the In Action cards. Why does Topps not do those any more? Two cards in one set of a team's favorite players? More card sales. HELLOOOOOO! I never understood why the designers did the double hockey stick design until I grew older. In case you were not sure if a card was mis cut it helps out.
So what we got? Four Seavers - Regular, In Action All-Star COR and All-Star ERR. Leave one letter out on the back and you have a collectible! Johnny Bench has two cards. Davey "The dryer was not that hot" Concepcion has multiple cards. The sweet fro that is Soto only has one. Sadness ensues. But happiness is found again trying to emulate the bad assness that is George Foster. Who does not want those chops? Griffey the Original's stare that made little Kenny freeze when he saw it. And command the respect of umpires for minimal bad calls.
And the best photo in the set?
No. 316 Rafael Landestoy who was just told he had been traded to the hicago Natioanl League semi pro baseball club. Just kidding! Don't cry man.
This was a challenging set for me as an 8 year old to build. Only the Majic Market in town had cards that summer. The grocery stores were done for a few years and the corner market was only selling Donkey Kong and E.T. it seemed. But I persevered. Until football came out. I remember cataloging this set in 1987 to see how rich I was going to be and found out the packs I bought got me within 3 cards of completing it. And considering I had no one to trade with at the time that was dang good for an 8 year old.

A Full Reds Team Set of

2005 Topps Heritage

I am trying something different this time. This slide show is a way to show both the front and backs without taking forever to load the cards. Let me know what you like better. Cards or the slide show.

Mets are sore loooooooooooosers

Yes LOSERS are the best way to describe the New York Non-Yankee National League semi-pro baseball chokers. They think that being Rick Rolld is not funny and will no longer play the song.

But for old times sake:

Brads Random Red #35

1973 Topps G. Foster / P. Rose #202
N.L. Playoffs - Reds Go To The W.S.

1973 Topps J. Bench/ B.Tolan #208
World Series - Reds Win Game 6

1973 Topps Sparky Anderson #296

And to wrap up the 7 card Vintage Random Red run is this 3fer. So we have the 1972 National League Playoffs where Foster knocked in the winning run taking the Reds to the World Series. Then we have the Game 6 winning run taking the Reds and the A's to game 7 in the World Series. And finally the manager that did it all. Ol' Sparky. Gotta love it!

1972 Topps Home Run Leaders #89
Lee May, Hank Aaron, Willie Stargell

1972 Topps Dave Concepcion #267

A double shot here. The stats on the back of the 1971 Home Run Leaders card is pretty cool as not only does it show the top 3 records of the players featured on the front but also the top 10. If you see Johnny Bench made the list as well! Too cool. And way to go Lee May to make a card with Aaron and Stargell. Atta boy.

1978 Topps Mario Soto #427

Well I just can't seem to get some sleep. Freaking out about tomorrow's surgery and decided to fill in the rest of the 7 card vintage run for you guys. Here we have a 1978 rookie card of Mario Soto. So if the border is off centered to the left and the P in the ball in the upper right corner is off centered to the right would that mean this card is true 50/50 centering??? Ugh, and his glove is coming undone. Hope he's not about to run on the field in the bottom of the 9th and pull a Bill Buckner!

New York Mets... RickRoll'd

According to the New York Daily News, the Mets were the victim of an internet-organized prank. When asked to vote for the new 8th Inning song at Shea Stadium, "fans" apparently voted for the ubiquitous "Never Gonna Give You Up" by white chocolate himself, Rick Astley.

I for one am appalled and shocked of the intentions of these people. The Non-American League baseball team in New York deserved far worse. But congrats go out to all who participated in making the Mets fans as unhappy as can be.

Audio is a little low but picks up at the end.

Brads Random Rant #3

Aloha everybody:

I woke up saturday morning to a terrible pain in my mouth and jaw so I called the dentist and explained my problem and the worst news was dropped on me. About 10 years ago my moms uncle passed away from an abscessed tooth and one week before xmas my brother-in-laws father passed from the same thing. The pain got worse yesterday and it took away from my trying to complete several trades. I have to leave for my surgery in an hour and I'm freaking out right now as they are talking about possibly helicoptering me to Honolulu for this surgery as it has spread to the jaw. I intend to get back to posting as soon as I can (prob wed).

Again, I'm really sorry everybody and as soon as this is over I'll be back on top of things.

Brads Random Redleg #31

1955 Bowman Fred Baczewski #190

Ahhhh, a 1955 Topps Cincinnati Redlegs card beat to hell. Eh, I still love it! But its only half as nice as my High School car and my yearly Hot August Nights annual car run in Reno! A 1955 Chevy Bel-Air Two Door Hard-Top with a 327. Frickin monster!

Reds 2 Wins 1 Not Win

Thanks to Yahoo and their freeking waiver wire on new players I missed this performance on all of my teams:
This guy:
2007 Bowman Chrome No. BC145 Johnny Cueto

The rookie pitcher that is up to the hype it seems after breezing through the minors last season and the Diamondbacks today.
What exactly did Cueto do?

Chris Young
PWNED!

Eric Byrnes
PWNED!

Mark Reynolds
PWNED!

Justin Upton
PWNED!

Doug Davis
PWNED!

Chris Young
What the hell was that?

Chris Burke
What the hell was that?

Eric Byrnes
What the hell was that?

Jeff Salazar
PWNED!

Chris Young
PWNED CUBED!

Except for a homer off of Johnny by Justin Upton this game was one hell of a forecast for the Reds future this season. Looks like we finally have the pitching to go with the hitting. Harrang is himself. Bronson is himself. And Keppinger was the man at the plate today. Whooda thunk it?

The Greatest Professional Baseball Team Ever
2 Wins 1 Not Win

Cincinnati Reds
3 Runs on 5 Hits

That other team
Who cares?
Cueto destroyed them, taunted their children,
took the yarn from the kids kittens and
Keppinger gave them a clinic at the plate

Fleer Fabrics Game Used Jersey FF-KG Ken Griffey Jr.
Fleer will be missed by this collector. Even though the brand officially died in 2005 it was carried on in name by Upper Deck. Fleer always had great design and cool parallels. Except for maybe the 1982 set it was always the one I looked forward to. Just look at this set. The crisp borders. Good action shots. Clean graphics and team logo. Easy to read (by no-foil standards) names for the players. The inserts always had neat graphics. This issue of Lumber Company has a great background, insert name area and great photos of the players well cropped. So enjoy a look at this set. While you can.
